I....am awesome.

Let me preface this blog by stating that I am *not* a handywoman. I tried to fix a closet door that had come off its track earlier this year, and I wound up having to call my landlord to come and do it. But, calling people to fix things is a pain in my ass. They never come when they say they're going to come, and then they usually charge you an arm and a leg on top of that. Well, ladies and gentlemen, I fixed my freezer. I am awesome.

Yesterday evening after I went grocery shopping (of course) I noticed that my refrigerator was less than cool. My freezer also seemed to have accumulated some ice and frost. I had had a problem with this before, back when my building was an apartment building. The maintenance guy figured out that the motor on the evaporator fan in the freezer had stopped working. Instead of fixing it, though, since he didn't have the part, he just swapped my unit out for another one in the building. So, I figured that this was what was wrong with this unit as well and sure enough, when I opened up the plastic thing in the back of the freezer, the fan had stopped. After doing a little research on the internet, I was confident (?) that I could change the motor out myself. Unfortunately, Home Depot didn't carry the part and no appliance repair/part shops were open on a Saturday night. (You're totally surprised, I know...). Anyway, when I took everything apart, there was a lot of ice and wet and yuck. I tried to dry everything off the best I could, and since I couldn't get the part, i decided to put it all back together. But not before blow drying the fan motor. I thought perhaps it wasn't working properly because it was all wet. Well, who knows what the problem really was, but once I put it all back together, the fan worked! I was amazed. I *fixed* something. And, more importantly, all my groceries didn't spoil. You're impressed--I can tell.
